Originally released on County Records in 1972, A Fiddlers’ Convention in Mountain City, Tennessee (1924–1930 Recordings) brings together historic field recordings by musicians who participated in the legendary Mountain City Fiddlers’ Convention, held in Mountain City, Tennessee, in May 1925. Among them are three foundational figures of early Appalachian music: Fiddlin’ John Carson, G.B. Grayson, and Clarence “Tom” Ashley. These recordings capture the sound, spirit, and repertoire of the musicians who performed at this landmark gathering which, along with the Bristol recording sessions of 1927 and the Johnson City sessions of 1928 and 1929, are considered three significant events that helped launch the modern country music industry. Reissued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1925 Convention, this classic collection celebrates an important moment in the history of old-time and Appalachian music.
